Also to the OP there's plenty of private secular schools which have the staff that can devote to socially different children and still give them a top notch education. If religion was one of the reasons you weren't thinking private school. There's TVS or Country Day for college prep or the Hill School for tailoring education to kids who need a special approach.

He's out on Army, that's for sure. I need to get him to port and check out what these carriers bring to the table. If he's going to fly, he might as well be able to land anywhere.

Ya, if a parent is only going to half-ass it, then send them to public schools so the paid teachers can half-ass it for you.

It requires a parent with intelligence to teach the curriculum, drive to make it work right, imagination to make it interesting for the kid and coordination to put a social balance in their lives.

If you have that, then ignore these posts that people who have never been involved with put up here. If you don't think you can pull it off, jump on their bandwagon and get your kid a "quality" public education.

I have a hard time believing that ANY parent (especially on this forum) can teach a kid multiple subjects better than a staff of teachers. Kids that are taught correctly at home can avoid the classroom distractions. You can't hide your kids from everything.
I find this humorous because my ex-SIL was homeschooled by a linguist mother and nuclear engineer father. I'd say they had their bases covered in the math-science department and in the History/English side of things.

That aside, most parents would struggle with some aspect of teaching all of the subjects at higher levels, I agree. That's why they have co-op programs.

I'm pretty fucking weird, but I attribute it to public school. I also have absolutely zero motivation to finish my bachelor's degree because public school doesn't push kids to give their very best. I coasted through high school with a 3.97 GPA, didn't do any homework, and figured if I can make an A- without doing homework, then why should I waste my after-school hours trying to go above and beyond when I could be outside doing something.
