Then it would be up to the voters to push on the council members that represent them. Still the same result, since I am not a resident there they wouldn't give a flying flip about my opinion.

All that said, I think it is a terrible law, and completely unneeded, just like seatbelt laws for adults. I only wish I lived in Arlington to have the ability to vote on the issue.

All you have to do is put the phone up to your ear and then say you were dialing a number. Dialing a number and talking are not against the law.

Law will be impossible to enforce correctly. None the less, they will still issue tickets for revenue.

I'm pretty sure you can currently pull a driver over for that right now.. failure to maintain lane. What I'm saying is the only reason the city would pass this law is one reason: money. It allows them to ticket people who ARE controlling their vehicle - which they are not able to ticket currently.

Officers do not get distracted. They go through training that prevents them from making any mistakes.

Whatever it takes to inconvenience the cell tards who feel they have the God given right to inconvenience/risk the lives of others while behind the wheel because they just have to chicken peck or yack as if there was no other time in the day to do so.
Every time I see an "accident" these days it is always someone getting hit from behind. After the earthquake in VA I saw three wrecks all take place. They were all on their cell phones and I'm sure the context was something along the lines of "ZOMG I can has been in irthkwake!" Traffic reports everywhere were making comments on how many wrecks there were that day. No way you can be convincing enough that idiots who use their cell phone while driving are alert enough to fully understand their surroundings.

Let's ask Osiris, 03trubluGT, and Treadhead what they think about this... as a police officer how exactly would you enforce this law? Would it not require you to peer into a vehicle and assess what a driver is doing exactly? How exactly would you determine if they are texting? And how exactly is this safer for the public having 2 distracted drivers going down the street? I would presume a responsible officer would probably only have the time to notice a driver swerving, and then this law would give them the ability to make a stop and ticket them. But, is it not true that swerving and not pay attention is something you could make a stop on regardless of what someone is doing? It's just as dangerous picking up a water bottle from the passenger floorboard as texting is it not?

You know, radios provide a distraction while in the vehicle. As do other passengers. Let's go ahead and ban all radios and passengers. And let's ban music all together while we are at it. And a/c controls, navigation, warning lights, and gauges too.

You will look straight forward, and have hands at 10 and 2 at all times, while sitting at a perfect 90 degree angle, Komrade. Zis must be done in ze name of safeties. To save ze lives.

Geof, your argument of an officer seeing someone swerving all over the place, then pulling them over because they were on the phone is horseshit. It implies as if someone who was swerving and wasn't on the phone would be ignored by LEOs, and we all know that's not true.

Jesus, some of you people are dense as fuck.
