Believe it or not but Virginia Beach is a great vacation place, boardwalk is great, you can get around the town by city transportion and such!! You can fly into Norfolk, VA via SWA... Also Myrtle beach is a great place if you get something in the down area, small board walk area...

We just went to Cozumel in June of last year. Probably the best vacation I have ever had.

We stayed at the Iberostar Cozumel and the resort was just amazing. Now this short review is coming from a non-dfw billionaire, so I am most likely being looked upon as a poor scrub of a human being. But my family loved that place. All inclusive, food being served nearly round the clock.

We don't drink alcohol, so I can't comment about if they water their drinks down, but the non-alcholic drinks were great. Very tasty and unique.

There were flamingos, giant iguanas and peacocks roaming freely around the resort.

My wife and my cousin took off and went to see the big pyramids and some other side trips. I didn't fret at all, they went, they saw...they came back. They both really enjoyed it despite it being SUPER humid in-land.

I just chillaxed with my parents on the beach and went to Punta Sur. We rented a VW Bug Convertible. I think that was one of the cool points of the trip. Taxi fare to/from town is $25 each way. I rented the car for like $100 total (Isis Rentadora)

I'm going back someday...just once the flights/taxes are reduced..it's crazy how much tax they put on landing there. We flew into Cancun and did the whole bus down the coast/boat from Playa to save money. The Fedarales with Uzi's made me feel safe every 5 miles.

Shit I'm Mexican and even I wouldn't want to wander away from the hotel for an excursion. Damn cartels turning Mexico into a war zone.

I've been to Xel Ha, Tulum, Xcaret, Chichenitza, etc...I've been 'about 9' times. This would be the first for the kids and I would definitely want to take them to Xel Ha.

I would just stay around the playa/conzumel area, would not go on any excursions.

The $2k includes drinks and everything-on a cruise, we'd be gambling and drinking some and that would make it over that. Plus, my son gets seriously sea sick so he has absolutely no desire to go on a cruise.

My oldest son and his two kids and wife have been there twice in the past few years and have really enjoyed it. They drive over and back. Plenty of things for the kids to do. They stay in a time share condo they found from some friends.
