A peckerwood is a rural white southerner, usually poor, undereducated or otherwise ignorant and bigoted, the term gained popularity in the deep south during the early twentieth century and was meant to be derogatory. It is a reversal of the name of the red bellied woodpecker which had a patch of red on the back of it’s head and neck, therefore a peckerwood is a redneck, terms that describe similar groups of people are trailer trash or white trash but neither of those have the same effect or ring to them as peckerwood does.

A double standard as in you are replacing one "slur" for another. While the vast majority of people would not be offended by the use of the word today, it was still a commonly known as a slur.

I'm not saying I had a problem with it, fwiw, just pointing out the reason.

I'm the mod that's not ridiculously over sensitive to it, and starts arguments completely out of the blue because of it. By and large the board manages itself. I'm more of the less government crowd, half the reason this board is popular is because of the wild west mentality. These guys can take care of themselves, only on rare occasions do people need to get banned. You say dumb shit, you get a dumb shit reputation.

This isn't about how much or how little YOU are sensitive to certain subjects. This is about showing some respect to our few fellow members that are of color. We only have ONE fucking rule, don't be a racist. Keep your racist views off of this board and everything else goes. I'm not an ADMIN so I don't get the emails when someone reports a thread where someone is fucking up, but I do my best to at least enforce the ONE rule we have.
If one of your buddies is making a racial slur, edit that shit and send him a PM or text, not hard really. But not doing anything about it is as bad the crime itself.

I try to use discretion when I'm watching a conversation. If everyone understands the premise behind a statement and isn't offended, I don't feel we should get involved. If someone is showing wanton racism then it's our job to step in. But, I feel that formulating theories on why a particular statement might be racist based on other posts is a stretch. I try to keep things nice and simple. If you think I'm doing a shitty job then post it up in the forum and let everyone give their input.
