True this. My first car was a 76 Dart with a 4 speed. It was the first time I had never driven standard before. I went to pick up it up from the owner and I had hell getting it home, but hey I learned!

I love my 99 F150, gas mileage isn't terrible on it. I have been thinking about selling it and trying to get a mustang. I did not wreck my first car, which was a 94 3000gt sl my mom bought me for 3k. Well she didn't like me having a car that she thought was fast. I didn't pay for it so I didn't have much say in the matter. Ended up with a POS 2000 Celica gt. Gas was great, I paid 40 bucks for a full tank. Then I hydroplaned into a telephone pole. Snapped the front axle etc. With the money from the insurance I got my truck. I do agree with getting him something reliable, but don't get him something brand new. Get him a standard transmission 99-04 mustang or a focus svt or something along those lines.

I think you're spoiling him. Get him something older, something to work on a bit. That way he will learn something to pass on to his children.

    Something American...

The biggest thing I noticed when I started driving was the shittier the car, the more fun we had.

Right now he is 14. But by this time next year (15), I pla on having a car for him. He wanted a 2010 Camaro or Mustang. Just trying to stay away from that.
I agree. I drove a 1999 f-150 v6 that was a great truck. Of course I sold it for the cobra and then the corvette. I've never wrecked anything and I've been really thankful that I haven't had to drive a pos. I had friends that drove $2500 cars and that just ended up with me going and rescuing their asses all the time. It's a pain in the ass to have a car that isn't reliable. If you want a project car then buy a project car like a fox or something. Don't make his everyday transportation the project car. An altima or similar is a good choice. I drive a 1990 gmc single cab that I bought a maaco paint job for and cleaned up. It's been the most reliable car I've owned.

I bought one of my sons a 96 Cougar with a blown head gasket for $250.00 dollars. I had him read the Chiltons covering the car then supervised him replacing the head gasket. I wouldn't allow him to use any air tools. It was a great project for the both of us and the car ran flawless for two years. However, this car continually had mysterious dents show up on it. Teenagers are not particular about the vehicle, as long as it keeps running.

What is a continously variable transmission?
Doesn't have fixed gears, produces infinite # of eng-wheel speed ratios. "supposedly" more fuel efficient. Heard alot of folks don't like b/c it feels like a slipping trans. IMO probably a POS!

I like this. I'll never have kids but I am going to tell this to my uncle who has a 15 yr old.
