If I ever have a kid I'm going to buy them something nice, but at the same time I'm going to buy the biggest POS I can find on craigslist and make them park next to it everyday. So they know if they mess up in school or driving the nice car is history and they are stuck with the POS.

How about a 4cyl Ford Ranger? I've heard good things about them on the board from those who have owned them and they should be available fairly cheap.

Also, buy him a stick-shift. It seems like every girl and 99% of the guys under 25 can't drive a stick.

I drove my Dad's '78 El Camino when I was 16. No a/c, heater core bypassed & no straight body panels. Nobody I knew drive a new car or even a 2-3 year-old car. Buy a $2k cash car with liability-only insurance. If you feel like being spendy, save buying the nice shit until he graduates hs, or maybe college.

What are you gonna do if they wreck that damn near new car? Go buy another them another car?

Giving him the same deal my Mom gave me. I buy the first car (providing grades and attitude are in check) Insurance he has to pay for. From then on, he is on his own. He wrecks it, tough shit.

Gas Mileage is the big thing. Trucks are good on insurance, but horrible gas mileage. Not to mention trucks in Texas are expensive as shit. Plus I don't want to have to be working on it all the time.
