That's right, only a couple of train drivers.

    Best of luck, OP.

In the housing/subdivision industry, 35k is a cheap wage for any management position, greenhorn or not. Not dogging what they may be offering, but you'll realize why once you've had time to reanalyze everything after some time in the position. I work directly with the type of people who you are trying to get hired with through underground utility and excavation contractors who are contracted to do all the pre home building construction. It is a solid industry and the money is there to be had if you can find the right fit. You're not going to scare them at all by countering for $50k, after all, they will likely counter back with a number somewhere in between their number and yours. They might even think you're not qualified enough if you settle for the first offer of around 35k. You have to feel that what you're bringing to the table is worth more money, and having confidence is key. They don't know that you've never made that kind of money before and they really don't need to know. All they need to know is that you're highly motivated and from the sounds of it someone who would be a loyal and dedicated employee if they take care of you. And those are the types of people most builders want, from experience anyway.

11 years ago when I started in this industry I wasn't sure if this was going to be what I wanted to do as a career after the military, but I stuck with it and kept chipping away and I'm certainly glad I did. Reaping the rewards of all those years of back breaking work and trying to climb the ladder is very satisfying now looking back. The pay obviously comes with time and experience, but for me it was worth the wait. If you have any questions feel free to hit me up, I'll try to answer them as best I can.

    Best of luck to you.
