    • Damn, fly to Greenville first thing in the morning, physicals and dental tomorrow afternoon. Friday will be a day of getting my .mil ID, mandatory classroom death by power point. Probably nothing all weekend but hotel and pornhub, then fly out on Monday. Good thing I quit midshift on monday night or I would have had no time to get my stuff in order.

It's starting to sink in. I am probably going to be anemotional wreck in the morning having to say goodbye to my little girl and wife. I'd get drunk at the airport if I didn't have so much to do in the afternoon.
Fuck you. We're going to Costco.

I'm just gonna get in front of this; I'm gonna cry like a big bitch. My daughter has been so sweet these past 2 days. She climbed up in my lap at the crowded coffee shop this morning and just sat there hugging me telling me she loved me. I almost cried then. She knows I'm going to work and she is used to me being gone but only for 2 weeks at a time. She has no idea I'm going to be gone at least 3 or 4 months. I'm not sure how long we can keep up with the charades that I'm not gonna be home in 15 days this time. Gonna be tough.

          • Landed in Niamey, Niger. Hanging out here for a few days. It's hot and little to no wind. Beer is pretty good though and my hotel room a/c works.

Fuck you. We're going to Costco.

            • Looks fun.
Seriously though, hope this is all as much of a cake-walk as it can be.

Man, knowing that she is going to have to deal with that and then all of the sweet stuff; well hell, I cant say that I could have done it. I would rather work at Burger King breaking out windows than to have to deal with the emotions.

Wishing you a safe journey, limited to no trigger time and a quick and safe return.

Thanks, Scott. I've been here a night and done my hand-off with the guy I'm replacing. He's only been in Niger for a week but he's been in Africa for about 4 months. I'm already making a punch list of things I need to do. The good thing is that the Security piece of this project is all mine to do as I please.

Hotel is what you can expect for a 4 star in a third world country. Food so far in the hotel is freaking awesome. Had a steak kabob last night and it was comparable in taste to a nice place back home just less frills. Sat out by the pool, drank a few Coastal beers and tried not to get eaten alive by mosquito.

A few trips around town today. Kind of hard to blend as we are 3 honkies and a African driver...who speaks zero English...that was fun.
I wish I spoke French. Luckily my subcontract security team has a bilingual rep. Needless to say, we had quite a few eyes on us to include one guy I saw discretely taking our pic. Not a warm fuzzy.

Security situation where we will be working is decent. Typical thuggery and petty crime. Kidnappings for simple ransoms and theft are the name of the game right now. Subject to change once we get stood up and are there for a little while. Once that happens, Security situation is projected to look like shit. Simple ransom kidnappings can be expected to be sold up north to Boko Haram - the newest member to pledge allegiance to ISIL. Thuggery is expected to turn into direct action against our compound and our customer's. Hopefully by that time the US forces in the area are a little more used to seeing us around and we will have made friends.

The temp is a little hot. The humidity is pretty high and you just don't stop sweating. I'm in my room which is cool, as it will get, and I'm still sweating after being inside an hour. It's Africa hot.

                  All for now.
Fuck you. We're going to Costco.

I'm not missing a single one. At $8 a pill, the company sent me over with 200 of them. I won't have any problem asking for more in about 120 days when I go home next just so I ensure I never run out.

Mosquito here are actually very small unlike the large ones we have back home. Their small, not near as aggressive, and very slow flying. But I'm still not letting my guard down.

I think the fact you won't find stagnant water here helps in keeping the population down.

                        • So the buyer for one of our accounts (he is Liberian) came in, and I was telling him the framework of this. His response was, "Oh, Agadez. I'm sorry". From a Liberian.
Look on the bright side, no hail storms!

Mt Uber driver a few days ago was Nigerian. Cool guy. Very excited to speak to someone who will be visiting his neighbor. He really talked up the people there as good folk. I'm reserving my judgment but optimistic.

Yeah, I got the impression that he was talking about the environment more so than the people.
