The man who was killed in Louisiana was a felon in possession of a firearm and someone had called in on him that he had threatened them with a gun, and then he was resisting attempts to detain him. How senseless!

Now the man who was shot and killed in Minnesota was thought by officers to possibly be a robbery suspect, or a person who matched the description of a robbery suspect. I have pulled over my share of people I thought matched the description of a violent suspect. I don't have the answers, just sadness at it all.

Uh, so no one gives a green light to a police sniper ? I would assume the SWAT commander would give such order in a situation. Same here, if he's an active threat, chapter 9 rules apply.. Chapter 9 doesn't specify the "means" of deadly force.

I'm not going to throw the DPD or Brown under the bus for the robot decision. It was a tough situation and they needed to end it. Could they have done it differently? Probably but I wasn't there and none of use are fully aware of the tactical situation.

That said, that action should be very carefully reviewed, not to lay blame but to see how things can be handled better in the future. This situation raises important ethical and moral arguments that should be addressed before this kind of action it taken again. Pandora's box is open, now we need to deal with the contents.

I'm with you, I just don't believe a police officer at any level should ever give out a kill order. If it is revealed the robot was solely sent into the room to kill him then there should be some reprocussions and resignations.

We have a standing kill order every time we put on the uniform. By your standards cops should not use deadly force unless you deem it necessary.

I am very glad they sent in the robot with C4 and killed him. I would have ordered it myself if I had been in scene commander.

They brought him one. They could have used CS or a flashbang right then. Nope. Brought him a phone. They could get to him, it was easier to blow him up. IT was less dangerous to use explosives. It blows my mind that so many don't see how dangerous this line of thinking is.

No, police have no obligation to protect anyone. I have cited the court cases repeatedly. I did notice they ran towards the gunfire and then I noticed the Chief of police ordering not justice but revenge by not trying to get him out and bring him before a jury but blowing him the fuck up with a robot. What was done was not justice but vengeance. Did he deserve to die? Absolutely yes. Did he deserve to die because the chief decided it was better to blow him up than to use CS or flashbangs or anything else? Or to use any of that to bring him before a jury and try him? No. That's not how it works. Due process demands he be brought to trial and all means used to bring him to trial.

How do you not get that he was still a potential threat. They were talking to him through the garage PA system and I am not sure he was cornered or nailed down.

You can't necessarily blame parents for an adult child's actions. Yes, a lot of children are the result of bad parenting, but some people are just douchebaggy assholes and the parents are not at fault. I don't know shit about Chief Brown, but the fact that a black Police Chief stood up on live tv and said the black shooter wanted to kill whites and white officers is good stuff. When the media and this administration are pushing for a race war and he stands up there and tells the unfiltered truth, he earns some respect in my book.

While I commend him on his decision and recent stand, he has proven to many officers that he is, well, better than them. Officers have sat at the table next to the guy, and said "hey Chief hows it going". Crickets. I know DPD Officers, and have worked with them for many years when my city backed up to theirs, not many good words on him at all.

I have something I want to get off my chest that I've been holding in for years, but if I see one more article or report about how strong and such a good man Chief Brown is, I'm going to scream. Today I've seen several news articles, a report on CNN, and another article is one of the top stories on my IPhone news. All have brought up Craig's name and made me have to relive June 20, 2010 all over again. Chief Brown says what he needs to say in front of the cameras. Not once In 6 years has he reached out to see how my children or I are doing. As a matter of fact, I saw him one afternoon at a restaurant I was having lunch at with a female Dallas police officer. He looked she and I dead in the eye, turned his nose up, and kept walking without saying a word to either of us. He clearly knew who I was and he definitely knew who the female officer was. I've never granted an interview or said a word about him in public, even though I was asked many times. Not even after he allowed his son to receive a police escort and then pretended like he didn't know it was happening. All of these reports on how strong he has been with all the tragedy in his life is really bothering me and I couldn't let another day go by without getting that out. It's out now and I won't say another word about it, just like I haven't for the last six years. ��
