Same reason anyone targets emblems of authority. Police are the very visible arm of the government that enforces the laws that are passed. As the people that are having those laws enforced on them cannot get to nor see the law makers that enact the laws, they focus that hatred on the ones enforcing it. You enforce it, you must believe in it, therefore you are the bad guy and this law wouldn't be around if you didn't enforce it so if you're not around, it goes away.

x2 You are the face of the corrupt justice system and the one enforcing those laws; sometimes with prejudice and excessive or unnecessary force. Since someone can't fight against the lawmakers, they are going to take it out on the enforcers. These are not my current, personal feelings, but ones I have thought about before when I was having a FTP moment and trying to understand why I felt that way.

When a soldier goes out to battle, he recognizes the enemy because of his uniform, not the living, breathing father or son inside that uniform. It's nothing personal. The reason someone would want to kill you just because you are a cop (THE MAN) is because they have declared war on your uniform.

I feel so bad for cops now. They're not there to protect the public for the most part. They spend more time giving parking citations and citing people for expired registrations than anything. It's a waste of their time.

As far as people killing cops because they're cops...it's because they see them as a threat. Animals kill their own kind because they're a threat, and we're just animals with thumbs.

To all the cops here, thank you for being there for us. To everyone else, treat them with respect and maybe they won't be so quick to pull the trigger.

See, your response puzzles me. Writing citations is a small part of the police work I know. I have never worked in the traffic division as a cop. I supervised the Traffic Investigation Unit where all DWI's, hit and runs, and vehicle related death investigations were worked by the detectives. But I personally don't write citations and haven't for a long time. And even when I did I wrote them to people who were bad guys (people with criminal history or we suspected of committing crimes) or to people who didn't seem to qualify for a warning.

When we go to community forums the OVERWHELMING majority of the complaints from citizens are about people committing traffic violations (speeding and running stop signs are very common), noise and drinking in parks and public areas, door to door solicitors, and dogs barking. These are things that affect quality of life for the citizens. I think it is very telling that police writing tickets is the only thing you mention about police work.

1. I do not think the murder of any police officer is justified.

2. My answer doesn't reflect my personal beliefs, it's what I think is going on in the head of a cop killer.

3. I personally hope that any cop killer winds up doing the hell fire rumba when he moves on.

Twice yesterday I said Obama has done what Charlie Manson could not. No one replied.

I don't read all comments typically...too much BS a lot of times. There are many problems, but ya the police right now are either not getting a fair shake or are being exposed...probably a mix of both.

Ultimately though, it's just one aspect. Court and prison systems contribute to a lot of these problems...etc.

My daughter asked me a question and for the first time in 17 years I didn't have an answer. She asked me why some one would want to kill me just because I was a police officer. I know all about evil people, and so does she. But solely because I am a police officer you want to kill me? I don't understand and neither does she.
