  • did you guys see the letter that Andrade got from the NHRA? They're suspending his license indefinitely if he stays on the show.

EDIT.... Apparently they sent them to anyone on the show that has an NHRA license. http://www.competitionplus.com/drag-...t-outlaws-show

Simple solution: Cover up any NHRA related stickers just like TV shows cover up branded clothing so they don't have to worry about logo/copyright issues.

      Problem solved.

The NHRA should be glad they're even relevant and have TV coverage/sponsors given the recent financial climate. They don't need to be poking/prodding a big bear like Discovery and probably it's most popular show right now.

        • Oh noes I lose my license! Get the fuck out of here. Plenty of organizations they can race in. NHRA must not think most participants at their events came from a street race or two

It's not just the fact that they are street-racing, but that the NHRA stickers are on the cars and can be seen clearly. They don't want to be associated with illegal street racing and understandably so, but to try and yank someone's license over it without giving them the ability to simply cover it up is ridiculous.

After reading the thread over on YB, it looks like the NHRA tried to make a money grab with Pilgrim Studios during Season 2 (The company that produces the show for Discovery) and they told them to go fuck off. NHRA got butt-hurt they didn't get a cut and so this is their retaliatory move. Unfortunately it's backfiring in a MAJOR way right now because their FB page is getting blown up over it.

Also, just look at how many likes the NHRA has on FB vs. just one guy on Street Outlaws - NHRA: 896K vs. MurderNova: 1.3 Million - Game. Set. Match.

The NHRA is dying and probably won't be around within 5-10 years at the pace they are on. Their broadcasts are tape-delayed on ESPN and are getting absolutely DESTROYED ratings wise by Street Outlaws. They don't like it and now they are doing anything they can to try and stop the bleeding.

Everyone involved with the show that races got one. Chief, DaddyDave, Doc, Monza, etc.

It does have an effect on them because they do race at NHRA sanctioned tracks for testing, no-prep races, etc. Guys like Doc, BoostedGT, etc. are heavily involved in those events and they take home quite a bit of cash when they win them. Not even being able to enter into one of those events because you can't get licensed to run at those tracks is a big hit IF the NHRA ends up pushing this further than just a warning letter.

All this over staged "street racing."

                        • after reading some (grammatically horrible) discussions on this, my opinion is that the NHRA likely had good intentions, but their execution has backfired on them.

I think there are two problems that the NHRA should have tried to address, one being that several of the cars have NHRA stickers, cert #'s and whatnot clearly shown on the show. The other is that the street outlaws show itself, being pitched as reality, goes to great lengths to show their product as actual illegal street racing.

The NHRA was founded on the principle that street racing was dangerous, and that it needed to be on the race track where it is safer for everyone. The street outlaws filming is done in a safe way, from what I hear, just on a closed road instead of a race track. I can understand an organization that has been trying to curb street racing for 50 something years would rather not have their logo all over the cars that are "street racing" and would ask that they cover or remove them from view. That's reasonable.

                            • Steve,

SGMP didn't have anything to do with the SO deal. That was a whole nother debacle in itself with previous owners filing bankruptcy and NHRA pulling their division race to run at gainsville (an nhra owned track).

I do believe NHRA has the right to flex their muscles on the rule book, yes the SO show promotes illegal street racing BUT the rule they're referring too should have had other people banned on other issues than street racing.

Brian Baker, an NHRA/IHRA Index and Class racer was found guilty in connection to one of the "child sex" raids from NBC. IHRA banned him, NHRA let him race in both a national event and divisional event and to this day still holds an NHRA license. Makes sense right?

                              • The problem for the NHRA is it appears none of the people that got the letter seem give a shit. They can flex their muscles all they want, but losing racers like Murillo and Lutz is going to make them look stupid. On the flip side If they don't ban those guys for continuing to participate everyone is going to know they were blowing smoke.

I'm betting the end result is going to be NHRA backing off, and telling them to pull identifying stickers off of their cars when they are on the show.
