Wow that is a way back in the day moment, I remember that system and that was at Stone Mountain. That Blazer was the shit back then. Also Right Here Waiting on Richard Marx's CD that would pull some hard DB's to. The HiFonics Blazer that Gerald in Kaufman built was just way to F'N load also.
In 91-92 my truck would hit 149 on flashdance and did a 152.4 on Techmaster P.E.B - Bassgasm, chicago hard habit to break was another good one.
Madonna had some great bass songs. Aldo Nova's intro to fantasy makes some great sound. Also VH hot for the teacher sounded like a top fuel dragster. Shit just sounds better with a system. Metallica has some really solid hitting music. I remember my principle taking away my Two Live Crew CD. He was cool about it but not real happy with the content.
Loudest system I ever did was 156.8 DB and that was 5 Soundstream SPL 160's (16") and 5 Reference 1000 watt amps.
Now guys are doing that with a pair of 12" subs.

Sadly I never did actually compete in the old IASCA format, I do remember being next to Mark Fukuda's Blazer at the world finals one year though when he hit 155-156 with Flashdance. That was the world record at the time.
Car Audio has come a long way since then. He had 16 15" woofers and 4 Power 1000 amplifiers, well over $10k worth of equipment at his cost. You could probably do the same thing today with a couple of 12s and a wall.
Those guys at Sampsons could damn near fix anything. They turned me on to PPI and HiFonics back in the day also. While those were nice the Orion Reds I ran in a bug could not be beat. One 50 watt amp running 8 subs and it was a monster. Nothing like a wall of speakers behind your head. I use to run Crunch Pro Cast 18's, or at one point Petra DVC 15's. 16-5 1/4's, and a couple of JBL tweeters. Alpine was one of the only CD players that wouldn't skip in my car. Ahhhh the good ole days. Between that and my Infinity SM15's with Yamaha B2X amp in the house it is amazing I still have perfect hearing. My neighbors were all cool though and would walk down and check out what I was doing when I was building a system. Now I like a mild set up but still have to have my bass. Anyone remember Nemesis?
Small world. I used to always hang out with the Sampson brothers and BS around with them. Good guys. Nice setup. I remember my first Alpine CD deck that had the buffer memory to help with skipping. And than my foray into Mini Disk LOL! And I knew some of the guys from Nemesis and even had there LP. I screwed up giving that away with most of my vinyl to a buddy of mine's DJ brother. Never thought some of this stuff would be worth anything. I have managed to collect some of their MP3's though. My favorite is Last Night with a bumping bass track playing through the song.
Oh yeah, anyone going to the Mosconi/Focal/Illusion sound competition in College Station this weekend? I was debating going just so I can hear some real systems and see if those $1000 subs are all everyone claims they are.
Don't think there is a DB contest, just all SQ systems. They are giving away like $5000 to the winner.
Wouldn't mind meeting more people on here as I have only met a handful and all were cool ass people.
Well it turns out I was not the reason for the cop car last night. The other Silverado that is identical to mine just with rims and no tool box took out a stop sign at the end of the street and someone reported them. I went to apologize to my neighbor and he said there was no bother and he only heard my system for a couple seconds a few times which would have been when I opened the door to get in and out to make sure the truck wasn't too loud from the outside.
Played with it a little more earlier and it seems if the truck is outside and doors/windows closed I can crank it as much as I want and you cant hear anything more than what you would hear from a car with a stock stereo that had its windows up. I was glad to know that as I don't want to pound it and attract attention.
With the windows open though its a different story. Cant stand within 15' of the truck and expect to hear anyone talking. Just what I wanted.
We'll see how they are shortly.... This is about as top of the line I'll get, anything more wouldn't do anything extra for me....
Gasp!! Is that a crossover in the door?!?!
LOL. You will love them, they are superb speakers. I was debating between those, the Hertz 165XL, HAT components or the Illusions. I actually wasn't considering the Illusions seriously as they were way out of my price range and noplace is allowed to sell them under MSRP so no deals to be found. Then all the sudden the ones I had turned up at half price and I tried to jump through the computer screen to get them. LOL
Their Hex series stuff is nice but unfortunately the lower end stuff is now mass produced as cheaply as possible. I'm still using one of their D3 subs I bought used about 12 years ago. The stereo shop had it in a demo car, then I competed with it and it's siblings for a couple of years and now it's in my daily. The other two are at my house as spares but I'll probably end up using them in my truck.
I still have an old Kicker XS100 if you guys need a lot of power. I'm tired of looking at it.
I like the KS Powers. Damn fine quality speaker there. The problem with Focal is you listen to theic cheap one and say "Wow, that sounds superb. Gotta have it" and then you listen to the Polyglass and say "Wow, even better!" and then you listen to the Expert series and think "Oh my, that's really sounds excellent" and then want them and then you hear the K2 Powers and say "Oh my god I must have those! How much? That's more than my mortage!" and then you hear the Utopia and contemplate which body part to sell.
