"Gee I don't have it because I was waiting to see what was gonna happen with the bill." That would sound real dumb after becoming a victim if you are even able to talk at all. Imagine that on a headstone or the headstone of a relative. Nah, for a total investment of $150+/- you can always tear up the Utah non-resident CHL if it becomes a worthless piece of paper. Cheap insurance.

This is not directed AT you cad just at the logic of waiting.

I for one was able to afford the TX CHL and had the time on hand to take the course. Even with that said I am going to spend the extra money and take a Utah non-resident CHL and I will apply for it also. I figure it is a statement of taking full benefit of my rights at this time before someone takes them from me.

Regarding FL I do know that they do not honor the Utah non-resident but they do honor the TX.

I would wait to see what happens with HB 356 before you all spend money on a non-resident CHL.

Edit: I see someone else posted it.

I just checked out Burnam's district, and I don't see that being a popular move for his constituents.

n 11/29/2010 Texas House Member Lon Burnam-D, of Fort Worth's District 90, filed HB 356. If passed, the state of Texas will no longer recognize non-resident, out of state CHLs carried by residents of Texas. (A 'loophole'' enjoyed by many Texas residents)

Here is a link that shows the bill's progress...

I'm glad you posted that. I just forwarded that info to a lot of people who will be more than happy to write a short message requesting that the Governor and Senator & Rep. for their Districts vote in opposition to strike down HB 356

I just sent out four politely succinct letters myself.

I would love to engage in a friendly debate with the individual who submitted that Bill. I've read so much about concealed carry, reciprocity, and unilateral agreements this past month it's start to spill out of my ears.

Before the legislature passed the Castle Doctrine, the DA in Houston was busting people right and left over the "traveling" clause... he had his own definition...

While it may be legal, some of these guys go out of their way to screw with gun owners... look at the old man in Austin busted at a gun show... they put him in jail for selling to an illegal and let the straw buyer go?

The Utah route may be quicker but I'm not going to give some liberal prosecutor or judge any room to suggest I was breaking the spirit of the law... or trying to skirt the system...

You have the time believe it or not.

Make sure when you send in all your paper work to Utah BCI that you pay for and get return receipt/delivery confirmation. And mail it out on a Monday. They are only open Monday - Thursday. If it arrives on a Friday or Saturday, it will get sent back to Salt Lake Post Office and sit there for a while until they decide to make another redelivery attempt. Just a tip from your Uncle Tim........

And I don't know if Brad talked about it in your class, but it's highly unlikely we'll lose our reciprocity agreement with Utah anytime soon. We can carry in like 34 states only with a couple of those being unilateral where you have to be a Utah resident. It's cheaper, quicker, and as you now know very informative, covers Texas CHL info, and only cost $10 to renew in 5 years with no range time. As long as the current laws stay in place. UTAH Non-Resident CHL will continue to be significantly more economical, practical, and convenient than Texas CHL.
I am advocating both. I took the Texas over the weekend and I am going to take the Utah as soon as I can.
