    Simply put, the SSN is not the "end all, be all" of identification. It is not mandatory that you provide it (see Ch. 38). The only scenario I can think of that it is used is for warrant hit identification, and I've already posted that it would not be necessary unless the person stopped did not have ID or the other identifiers present were a possible match.

    MattB, Nash, Alan, say what you want, but in the end, this is just another bitch session.
    All I'm asking is, even though you DON'T have to provide your SS#, yet were still asked for it, would you provide it? Previously you said you wouldn't, but, would that change if the officer threatened to arrest you? Even though you say "they would never ask because I'm not a criminal", but it sounds like that happened to dville. If you were in his shoes, what would you have done? That's all I'm asking.
