I want in, and would like to get a kayak for fishing and getting to good camping spots, but I need a large weight capacity. North of 400 lbs, for sure. Am I SOL?

That looks like it was an awesome trip. Beautiful fish you guys were catching! That 2XL looks like it's made for more gear.Originally posted by Danny46 View Posthttp://texasfishingforum.com/forums/...37#Post6103037
Here's a write up I did on one of my trips. There's a bunch of pictures of my scrambler and my buddies Malibu 2 (Both Ocean Kayaks) loaded down. Also a good forum for those of you who like kayak fishing
And just for reference in regards to weight I was around 190 in these photos. By hull space, I ment internal as far as my scrambler. You will definitely want an internal hull or you will get rolled if it's choppy

I was chomping at the bit to do a Devil's River trip with Shane Davies--especially after the recent reports here and the fact that I was forced to turn down two previous chances to fish with him (because of work). So I was already pumped up when we put in, but I was still immediately struc...

Yeah, that's what I have thought about. Although, it's likely that if I was to do any camping based out of something like that, it would probably just be me. Leah isn't really interested in the "backpacking" type of camping.Originally posted by motoman View PostDepending on how much you're wanting/needing to move on the water, a canoe will probably be your better option if it's enough gear for the family. Otherwise the angler kayaks have quite a bit of cargo space. I've thought about one just to use the live well for storing stuff while on the water.
Yeah, weight would be my primary concern, because I am not a small guy anyways and a number of the cheaper ones I have seen are only rated to 300lbs. I would also want one where the cargo area goes into the hull rather than on top, to keep the center of gravity low.Originally posted by Danny46 View PostI've done multi day trisp camping out of my kayak and it was loaded with fishing equipment as well as food. The scramblers have a decent amount of hull space and room on the yak. Just need to be weight conscious

Mainly want to be able to paddle around in coves and smaller lakes.
By cargo space I just mean enough for a decent sized backpack (like a hiking pack).

I have no desire to spend $500 plus for a new one that is the absolute base.
Also considering Canoes as an alternative. I don't plan on shooting rapids or anything, so that may be a better option. But that presents other issues due to the larger size and weight.

Plus you usually get some extra gear thrown in.

I was out for a few hours last time I went.
