I'll let you know Matt. There's some good paddling in this area.

Paid for a Wilderness Ride 115 yesterday from Mariner Sails in Dallas for a pretty good price. I saved some money by getting a blemished kayak, nothing major, just a couple of small scratches that you can't tell are there unless you're really looking for them. Paid $688 before tax for a 2013 model, which isn't bad when they typically got for $869. Still need to go and pick up paddles, life jacket, and a mount for the suv. Mariner has sale going with special pricing through the end of Feb and I didn't want to miss that pricing. Should be picking it up here in the next few weeks. Picked it up in blue. The picture below doesn't do the kayak justice because it doesn't look like it has much space.

Think I've found the kayak I'm going to buy, just waiting to schedule a demo with Mariner Sails to try it out on the water before dropping the cash on it. It's the Wilderness Systems Ride 135. It's a 13.5 foot sit on top kayak. Has a capacity of 550lbs with a good amount of internal storage space. MSRP is $969 but they're selling $150-$200 cheaper at stores.

How far west are you wanting to go?

Went over to Mariner Sails tonight over off of 35 & Walnut Hill to look at kayaks. I've been emailing Mike in sales about what I'm looking for and he pulled several aside for me that would fit my needs. They have a demo every couple weeks on Thursdays and Saturdays over at Whiterock lake. Appointments are required but I bet are really helpful when deciding on a specific kayak. I'll probably end up buying from these guys as they have the best selection around and the fact you get 15% off accessories when you buy a yak.

Mariner Sails stocks and sells more kayak fishing and Hobie Cat equipment than anyone else in North Texas. And our staff members are experienced sailors as well as kayakers.

I know you can paddle the greenbelt and at any of the local lakes. Any places close to the Plano/Frisco area?
I'll be looking for other places in the DFW area. I've heard you can paddle the lower trinity river somewhere.

I have been kayak fishing for over 6 years now. Here is my write-up from our last trip to Caddo...

    http://www.dfwmustangs.net/forums/sh...ad.php?t=14382

Each kayak has it's ups and downs. It just depends on what you want to do with it. I have owned over 10 different yaks, but all were for fishing.

Those are pretty sweet. In the State of Texas, you'll have to register the boat if it has any power other than human power propelling it.

I was more concerned with whether or not you would want to look for one that will accept a drop in transducer location for a fish finder. Lowrance has a transducer design for a few kayaks. It's a drop in like that motor system.

This is about 6 miles from me, if any of you wanted to try it I'd be glad to meet you at a takeout point downstream (or up towards the lake) and get you back to your vehicle to go load your gear. Just message me in advance to make sure I'm in town.
