Totally justified. Like pretty much everyone else has said, if you are big enough to swing (or act like you are going to swing) a pipe bender at a cop after shaking off a taser, you are big enough to take 10 in the chest.

Back in my EMS days, we had such a cocktail for a unruly/combative/dangerous patient while in transit. A rapid shot of Thorazine in a large muscle mass, like the thigh. My partner(s) and I nicknamed it "The Switch". Because that's what it looks like. Turning someone off like a light switch. Unfortunately, I only had the opportunity to do that once in the field in my tenure. It was neat to sign over a patient who was taking a happy nap just after they got done destroying the inside of their house and accosting their family.
