Ever been asked for your Social Security number during a traffic stop?

    Ive been asked to verify who I was by my social, I have a common name apparently. Just to make sure I wasn't someone who had a warrant

    Its only happened when I was in the traffic unit. I let then call, then when dispatched confirmed I was legit I completed the stop.

    You didn't answer the question. What if an officer asked you for your SS#? You said you wouldn't give it out, and then you'd be in cuffs with you car towed. So what would you do when the officer put the cuffs on?

    I don't know why it won't let you print without it. I've never had any issues getting the ss number when I ask. I'm going to bring this up with the brass next time I work to see what the deal is.

    If someone is impersonating law enforcement then you probably have much more to worry about than identity theft, like not being killed at point blank range. I don't recall ever hearing of anything impersonating law enforcement to commit identity theft. You're talking huge risk for little reward.

    it just seems like an easy way for identity theft if someone posing as a LEO pulled you over. With a DL & SSN, there really isn't much limit of what they could do and all the while you'd just think it was an officer. Not sure what I would do under the circumstances.
