All people over the world are born with them. So if you have the right to defend yourself, so does a person in Iraq, Iran or the USA. Most people aren’t going to just randomly attack someone, they attack when they are threatened. The US telling sovereign nation how to conduct their business with the THREAT of force makes them want to defend themselves.

What was the last decade were there weren’t troops on the ground in some foreign country? It was before you or I was born. Go back and read what the founding fathers had to say about foreign entanglements. If you can’t see that maintaining our troops at home is more cost effective than having them abroad and paying to rebuild infrastructure in some other country keeps us from focusing on our own then you need to take economics 101.

I think we may have a sub or 2 of our own somewhere and I have worked on the ports so I am aware of the potential for importing weapons. That potential would go way down once the US stopped dictating what other sovereign could and can’t do.
I would defend this soil and my family to my last breath from a foreign invader, even one standing in the road with a shovel in his hands.

Yep, we are trained to make quick decisions and to weigh them against the constitution and the law.

What does enlisting fix now? You're immediately brainwashed out of making your own decision and into making decisions that suit the interests of politicians when you enlist...Originally posted by Forever_frost View PostSo, you're ignoring the cost of that, submarines coming in, weapons in shipping containers shipped by legal ships, aircraft and so forth. Are you going to enlist to do this?

It would be a suicide mission that would have no chance of getting through. You wouldn’t have Russian bombers flying 50 miles off our borders either.

Spot on!Originally posted by 8mpg View Postinteresting thread.... took a different tone than I would have expected.
I love my country and my freedoms here. I have traveled to a few other parts of the world to realize we have it pretty good here. Are we fighting for our freedom? No way. I agree that we are a part of a capitalistic society and that there are the elite in which they rule the world. Political power appears to be purchased here in America rather than what is best for the people. Our troops fight endless wars and sacrifice their lives in my opinion pointless wars.
Im not sure whether isolationism is a great idea though Im sick of America playing world police. Our society continues to evolve and moral standards change. Other societies throughout the world have other opinions in which the general American consensus states that they are wrong. We all know that leaving people alone will never happen and we all have motives. Just like religion, politics leads us to wars. Trying to expand views just causes more trouble.
I believe with the true corruption of our political system and the intrinsic greed in some of the capitalistic society, we fight for ideals of freedom but not for freedom. We fight for an instinctual greed.
