I wouldn't go higher than a 9:1 on any street-used combo, maybe 8.5:1. Now an N/A car, I'd go as high as possible while still being able to use pump gas.

ok so what dish would ya go with on the pistons from what i posted above? i'm sure they will decide for me pretty much since the heads have to be matched for the compression goal also... lets say 15 psi tops... what dish...

yea. well, honestly i feel very good about this thread, i have a strong sense in what to look for now, and im leaning more towards fordstrokers for the build. after reading and lookin through their site, i can see why they are well known and trusted. i sent them an email last night cant wait to hear back....

ok ok ok,, question,, again,,...... now,, say i go ahead and start puttin the dent in the ole bank account for this engine plan of mine, now, when selecting what pistons i want, for my 475-500 rwhp goal, on however much PSI from a new vortech or procharger setup, what would you guys reccomend,,, -14.2cc dish,,,, OR,,, -20.1cc dish.... obviously the 20.1cc would bring compression way down, plus whatever the heads would bring it down to, but,,, how low can ya go before you start losing power you want from PSI,,, and how HIGH can you go before you start running into oh shit issues with x amount of PSI...... or,, does it matter?

A short block usually consists of the bock with the rotating assembly. The long block adds the cylinder heads as well.

You can get that kind of power with a 302 h/c/i/boost setup....on a stock block.

Now, don't get me wrong, I want a Dart big bore 363, but I also want a about 800rwhp someday!

i believe you, i just hear a lot about smaller cubes, boosted, bottle fed or whatever need more RPMs to make that power. guess it all depends on the heads, cam and tune though. on any car, even straight from the factory, a tune can do wonders.

Really? If you honestly don't know that, you're not ready for a 450-500whp 302ci based motor. Start with the basics bolt-ons and a H/C/I combo. You can have way more fun with that vs. a basket case 10K engine combo....

ok. something for you gresh out of the basket.... i already stated CLEARLY that i am not a 100% gearhead. my mechanical skills and knowledge are enough to get me by and do most repairs/installs of parts myself... everything with the driveline of my car, suspension, and SOME minor engine work, i will be doing myself. if it gets any higher than that, i will have my dad help me. him and my uncle built a NASTY engine from scratch for his 69 GTO he had when he was in HIGH SCHOOL.... i just dont have the time, since im in the army,, or a place to sit an engine cradle and build it with their help, since i could only come home and tinker with it on the weekends, that would take at least a month to do. so im just going to buy a complete engine from someone thats known and trusted so i dont have to fiddle with it... everything else, i can just do on my own time there in the parkin lot outside my barracks in ft. campbell... if i need a lift or some time,, i will go right down the street and pay 3 dollars for 3 days of using the shop, oh which also means any tools i want to use included in the price. so, for you, NO OFFENSE,, but please, for the love of god, dont bash me for not knowin whether i should go long block or short block. i know what i want, and i know WHY i want it as far as the general overall plan for my power goal. how i ACHIEVE that goal is NOT up to me, so therefor, I ASK QUESTIONS. thank you.

Check my sig, My car make close to 650 with 14psi, My heads are the trick flow 195 cnc ported, they are factory ported. I had watts do my short block and I did the rest, with a blower you are looking at about 15k. I have a new ford racing boss block and have about 4500 into my short block. I don't even want to add up the rest to be honest. This is combo number 10 I get bored easily with it.

i see, i will have to keep in touch with you so i can learn a few things about the tuning process once i get the engine and drop it in, and of course put a decent procharger or vortech system on

i just dont want or need the extra cubes... its going to remain as my daily driver since im a military guy and all that, gotta have a nice quick car to cruise to walmart in haha. i dont need all that low end stomp from a 408 lol... a bulletproof 331 with a nice procharger or vortech setup on 10 psi will do me plenty. fun, and still driveable lol.
